Golf Industry Show 2016 – San Diego

By Grassgroup, February 23, 2016 10:44 am

This year saw the 2016 annual Golf Industry Show being hosted in the wonderful city of San Diego. Unlike last year’s freeze in Texas, we were blessed with gorgeous Californian sunshine…! Despite the incredible weather we still experienced a good, productive and busy show. The attendance figures that have been released show just how important this show is.

We were supporting our suppliers Progressive and Advanced Turf Technology. Progressive had a Proflex 120b painted in the new industry green on their stand as well as their remote controlled Slope-Pro mower. the ever popular Proflex was generating interest with its new colour and the economic advantages it boasts over other rough mowers.

As always, it was great to catch up with the Progressive team!

For the very first time Advanced Turf Technology (ATT) were exhibiting on their own stand with the full TMSystem range and the 22″ pedestrian INFiNiSystem. Luckily for Iain the puppy managed to refrain from chewing his passport and he was able to attend the show this year! We had a great time meeting existing customers and potential new ones.

Cub Cadet also had a 22″ INFiNiSystem on their stand as well as the ATT cutting units on their impressive robotic RG3 mower!

Overall it was a great show and the weather made it all the better. Shame we were welcomed back with snow last Monday at our head office!

Quality matters at BTME 2016

By Grassgroup, January 14, 2016 9:09 am

The Grass Group is always striving to provide the best service and quality for it’s customers and aims to raise the bar again at BTME 2016.
ATT continues to be one step ahead with their walk behind INFiNiSystem. As the world moves towards sustainability the Lithium battery module is a welcome addition. Lighter, able to mow 18 golf greens and with a longer life span of at least 1500 charge cycles, the Lithium battery boasts many advantages over petrol engine machines.

It also has unprecedented financial benefits costing just 50p a charge!  Remaining a cut above the rest, ATT’s TMSystem 7, 11 and 14 blade cutting cylinders achieve exceptional quality with their non-contact cut and locked in cassette system. The height of cut ranges from 1.7mm to 40mm with the height-click adjuster, allowing a change in height of 0.1mm increments without needing any tools to adjust.
If that wasn’t enough you can have even more precision by adjusting the bedknife to reel set up by 0.028mm via the click system. All this with easy maintenance and high quality engineering. Isn’t it time you looked at upgrading?

If puffiness and thatch are plaguing your greens then look no further than the SMARTUltragroomer. It minimises puffiness in high density creeping bent and Bermuda grasses; therefore, reducing scalping and foot-printing. It removes seeds heads in poa annua turf and reduces ingress by “grabbing” the individual poa plants. It allows the growth of healthy grass and a consistent greens speed. It is a preventative measure to avoid costly cures such as fraise mowing.
CTI turf tines and bedknives are manufactured to the highest quality and are competitively priced for John Deere, Toro and Jacobsen machines. The range includes fairway, coring, solid and vent tines made out of 4140 steel construction. Also available are phoenix tines, forged in fire for a tighter cell construction, last as long if not longer than carbide tines. New for BTME 2016, Phoenix bedknives are also now available with their long lasting increased hardness. They can hold an edge longer particularly during significant topdressing periods. With the new updated Progressive Proflex 120b the grass will always be greener than the other side. The introduction of lift and turn increases efficiency alongside the five standard independent decks.

Updates for this coming season include rubber dampened belt tensioners and 25% less grease points than previous models as well as now being fitted with maintenance free blade spindles as standard. There’s a final twist to this year’s model as it’s now available in a green paint finish as well as the standard red, which we’re sure will appeal to the fans of green machines!   25 years of experience has taught The Grass Group that quality matters. With machines for every season of the year, there’s something for everyone in Hall A at stand A35.

Not your normal winter on the course!

By Grassgroup, January 6, 2016 9:21 am

It seems as though most parts of the United States are feeling unseasonably warm weather this winter and East Lake is no exception to that. Currently we are going through a 3-day warm spell that is bringing low temperatures in the high 50′s, and daytime high’s in the low 70′s. Our average high temperature for this time of year in Atlanta, Georgia is 55 degrees. The unseasonable weather the past few months has presented our Agronomy department with added challenges, from disease management all the way to grain production in greens. Immediately after the TOUR Championship at the end of September we begin preparing our MiniVerde greens for dormancy. The cultural practices of grooming, ultra-grooming, verti-cutting, brushing, and topdressing are greatly reduced. Walking greens mowers are changed to smooth rollers and heights of cut are raised. In preparation for the first frost our goal is to raise canopy height to help protect the crown of the plant as well as increase leaf tissue, giving the plant the opportunity to build and store more carbohydrates for winter dormancy and spring green up. The higher H.O.C. also aides in avoiding excessive greens speeds throughout winter dormancy. With the increase in leaf tissue and reduction in cultural practices comes an increase in grain build up. Typically by this point in the year we have had one, if not multiple, hard frost occurrences on our greens. This weather event leads to a loss of turgidity in the plant leaves and stems, helping to decrease the grain effect on ball roll. Needless to say, we have not had this hard frost occur yet this year and grain build up has begun to significantly impact the surfaces of the greens.

To combat this, our team has taken an approach that is used weekly during our growing season to combat grain. ATT Ultra-grooming. There’s a first time for everything, and this year is no exception to that. Each Ultra-grooming blade is spaced 1/4″ apart and offset from the previous blade. The process helps pull excessive material from the canopy, cut off runners on the surface “renegades”, stand stems upright, and removes fatter leaf blades helping to produce a truer putting surface.

While 70′s is warm for December, we know it’s not nearly warm enough to sustain growth for substantial recovery of Ultradwarf Bermuda grass. That being said, the purpose and depth of the ultra-groomers was set to help alleviate grain issues without causing unrecoverable damage.
The greens were backtrack ultra-groomed in the direction of the grain. The first pass was made going downhill with the grain and then again on the same pass going uphill. The day after, the greens were cross cut with a brush attachment on a J.D. SL 180. While green speeds did not greatly increase after performing the practice, the consistency in speeds from uphill to downhill putts and in-grain to with-grain putts greatly increased. We also saw a tremendous change in the balls ability to roll true and not “fall off” due to excessive grain on slopes.

SALTEX Stand Number F187 – Quality Cut and Massive Fuel Savings

By Grassgroup, October 16, 2015 2:32 pm

Following on in the footsteps of his smaller brothers 22″ and 26″, the 30″ has been adapted for the need to “sports turf”. It brings “fine turf quality” by providing an exceedingly good quality of cut and performance for sports facilities.

The INFiNiSystem 30″ has a floating head design that sees the cutting unit independent of the traction unit. Therefore, the weight is spread across the mowing making end of line turning easier and decreasing overall ground pressure all without affecting striping. Regardless of the amount of grass in the bucket, the HOC remains consistent as the weight is transferred to the traction. The bedknife BCD and attitude angle can be set for an unsurpassed level of cut quality – whilst the programmable variable clip rate allows control of the various range of different SMART cassettes.

It provides much more functionality than any other 30″ wide pitch mower. Through the SMART cassette range, the INFiNiSystem allows the Groundsman to calibrate the machine exactly how they deem suitable for their particular situation. Its flexibility extends past cassettes as it has the ability to be powered both by hybrid or pure battery. By working solely as a battery it helps reduce noise pollution by being lower than any noise regulation legislative limits. It also aids with Hand-Arm vibration, a condition which once diagnosed cannot be cured but only alleviated. The annual fuel bill is where the 30″ INFiNiSystem really comes into its own. An entire football pitch can be mowed with dual DCLA batteries or a single LiPo battery costing no more than 50p. This also reduces the need to travel to collect fuel.

This machine is truly “Plug-and-Play” – charged over night and used in the morning!

With this many advantages, why not visit us on stand F187 at Saltex and see why you should Upgrade to ATT.

Favourite, Fundamental and Fantastic – ATT INFiNiSystem

By Grassgroup, September 11, 2015 1:15 pm

In this month’s Greenkeeping magazine we find out what a day in the life of Leslie Cain from Grand Ducal Golf Club’s life is like.

We were thrilled to see how much he likes his 22″ pedestrian ATT INFiNiSystem!

He considers his 22″ INFiNiSystem as one his most important pieces of machinery. He has the SMARTCut and SMARTUltraGroomer cassettes and says “the versatility that this set-up delivers means it is already proving fundamental in our maintenance regime”.

He also says, “My favourite machine has got to be my ATT pedestrian mower. I love to hand mow the greens and tees – the aesthetic finish it leaves is fantastic. It has also been important as we have been carrying out renovation work meaning hand mowing had provided the TLC the new surfaces needed.”

Find out why he is so complimentary with a tea-break challenge and we might even bring doughnuts! Who doesn’t love a doughnut?!

BTME Day one

By Grassgroup, January 20, 2015 6:01 pm

A very busy first day of BTME this year with lots of interest in all product ranges. The doors were opened promptly at nine am and a steady stream of visitors has attend all through the day. The Grass Group press conference was well attended, with an official introduction of GKB Machines, the launch of the 30” ATT INFiNiSystem and also the announcement of twenty five years of Trilo in the UK. There has been specific interest on the stand in the Trilo S3 scarify and collect model – with an emphasis on clearing rough and collecting, this machine has seen a lot of demonstration requests. There has also been large interest in the GKB Sandfiller as well as the new Combinator Tungsten tip blade designed specifically for Desso and similar surfaces. As usual the ATT range is turning heads and there have been many interesting enquiries across the range with Ultragrooming particularly strong. Our tines stand has seen some of the busiest traffic of the day with CTI’s Rob Whiteside rushed off his feet advising on the best tine applications. Progressive mowers have also seen several interested parties wishing to arrange demonstrations for as soon as possible.

We’ve also had time to hand out a small award during the afternoon to Richard Scott of Thomas Sherriff – recognising them as UK ATT Dealer of the year for 2014.

ATT – Europe wide

By Grassgroup, November 21, 2014 10:44 am

The last few weeks have seen further activity for The Grass Group within Europe, with further resoundingly successful demonstrations undertaken across the whole of Germany and the imminent set up of the full dealer network within the country things are moving at a real pace. Adding to this new interest from Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic as well as ongoing communications and sales with France, Portugal and Belgium Tim Merrell has been a regular visitor to all these countries over the past few months.

Culminating the last few weeks with a very successful Galabau exhibition, German greenkeepers conference and a dealer day in Belgium as well as presenting and demonstrating at the John Deere headquarters in Germany to all the German John Deere dealers the impact of ATT, the TMsystem and the remarkable INFiNisystem is a testament to the technology, simplicity and reliability of the equipment, not to mention the cost savings and environmental benefits it can bring.

Goodbye Windsor hello GalaBau!!

By Grassgroup, September 9, 2014 9:48 am

Following what was a very positive SALTEX this year, many good enquiries were received as well as machines sold over the three day show at Windsor. Tim Merrell commented “This was a good show as always with glorious weather, lots of immediate demonstrations to follow with purchase promises to add to the machines that were sold off the stand during the week. September SALTEX will be sorely missed.”

Our show bandwagon now moves on again towards Wednesday the 17th of September when we will be exhibiting ATT on a shared stand alongside Trilo at the GalaBau Exhibition in Nuremburg, Germany. The stand located at Hall 9/9 location 213 will be a great opportunity to show the INFiNiPower and TM System to greenkeepers and sports turf professionals as well as support our German dealers.

Trilo will be exhibiting their new S Line range of machines that has been launched very successfully in the UK at SALTEX as well as their full range of other vacuums, blowers, scarifiers and turf industry equipment.

The Grass Group news so far in 2014

By Grassgroup, April 8, 2014 10:12 am

It’s been a long and tiring yet productive few months for Tim Merrell and The Grass Group. We kicked off the year with the launch of the new 26” INFiNiPower Mower at the BTME 2014 show in Harrogate in January. In February Tim went to the Golf Industry Show in Orlando supported by John Coleman of ATT and our Tines manufacturers CTI. That then led on to demos in Scotland and another demo day in Germany. Tim and John barely set foot on UK soil then flew straight across to China in March to attend the Beijing Golf Show. Tim and John spent an exhausting few days exhibiting on the stand with John Deere dealer Greenman and training the sales people on the ATT TM and INFiNiSystem, fitting in some time to try a few of the local Chinese delicacies….Next on the agenda at the end of March was a visit to the Trilo factory in Holland. This time Jeremy Vincent our General Manager went with Tim. They were discussing the exciting new Trilo products that will soon be coming to market.

Finally in April Tim went on to France for more ATT demos and also to pay a visit to the Rotadairon factory to see the new pedestrian seeder which will soon be available from the Grass Group.

Tim is off for a well-earned rest now……

End.
